The Social Studies Department prepares students for college, career, and civic life. Students of social studies utilize reading, writing, listening, and speaking to acquire knowledge, think deeply and develop enduring understandings, concepts, and disciplinary skills in areas such as history, geography, economics, and civics. With inquiry at the heart of social studies instruction, students engage in robust investigations into questions about our past, present, and future. In their investigations, students apply disciplinary thinking, concepts, and tools, evaluate primary and secondary sources, and distinguish evidence-based claims from opinion. While learning social studies, students practice the habits of civic life as they work individually and with others to think critically, problem-solve, consider possible solutions and consequences, and communicate and act upon what they learn.
