Dear SLC District Community,
Welcome to the Salt Lake City School District where student learning and achievement drives all that we do. It encompasses everyone: students and teachers, instructional assistants and bus drivers, principals and food service employees. As former First Lady Abigail Adams said, “Learning is not obtained by chance. It must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.” In SLCSD, we are proud of our long history and will continue to strive to be the best. Our job is to prepare students for their future, and we believe there is no better place to inspire and motivate than SLCSD.
I am honored and humbled to serve as the Salt Lake City School District Superintendent. The commitment of the teachers, administrators, support staff, parents, businesses, community members, and organizations to the students of SLCSD continues to be an outstanding factor in the success of our students. The dedication of our professional staff provides a focus on academic growth for each student while ensuring positive and caring relationships for all. I would like to take this moment to congratulate Dr. Withers on his retirement and thank him for his leadership and commitment to our community.
The vision of the Salt Lake City School District is Excellence and Equity: Every Student, Every Classroom, Every Day. Collectively we will work to cultivate a love of learning in a diverse and inclusive school community. We will hold high expectations for all students, respond to individual needs, and provide a safe, healthy environment in which every student can learn. As superintendent, I will continue to work alongside all of you, who are the implementers of this vision.
The job of superintendent is to keep the organization moving forward and focused on our core work of supporting all staff and educating all students. My first priority will be to ensure that we continue to support schools and improve performance for all students. Always looking through my lens as a teacher, administrator, and leader, I will continue the work that has been my focus for nearly a decade: to see that all our students and staff have the support and resources they need to be successful.
As we prepare for the 2016–2017 school year, I know all of our district staff will continue to focus on supporting our students and their families. We have exceptional educators and support staff on the front line every day making sure we are meeting the needs of our students.
I look forward to working with you this year. The Salt Lake City School District is ready to help students, staff, and families develop new skills, acquire more knowledge, and achieve your goals. Together we can accomplish much.
Yours in education,
Lexi Cunningham, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
