Music Education Storms the District

Image: Violin Class at Edison ElementryThe Fine Arts Department's elementary music programs has made a few changes. In the past the music teachers only taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students but now we are teaching music to k-6 students across the district. Some schools are trying new things. Pictured here, are students from Edison learning to play the violin under the direction of Jennifer Jones who also teaches at Highland High. The Edison program is patterned after the violin program at Jackson where all students in the school grades 3-6 learn violin. General music is taught in grades k-2 throughout the district. Franklin has an after school piano lab program. Nibley Park has a full time general music teacher k-7 who teaches general music to all as well as an instrumental program in the upper grades.
