Reasons to Celebrate

As we conducted an in-depth review of the data used by the state to create Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) reports, we found the simple reports normally available to the public did not tell the whole story. We wanted to share with you why we think there is reason to celebrate.

Continuing the trend of the past 20 years, diversity in the Salt Lake City School District is increasing. The graph below shows some of the changes we have been seeing over the last four years.

Demographic changes

National research would say that with this growing diversity, test scores should be on the decline, but the district is bucking that trend. In fact, Salt Lake City School District is one of the few, if not the only urban district in the country to reduce the percent of schools not making AYP.

Please note: a new test was established between 2008 and 2009, and there has been a steady increase in the number of students scoring proficient since then.
