Help Design New Logos for our High Schools

Help shape our high school's visual identity for generations to come! East, Highland, and West High Schools are hosting a "Call for Entries" for any members of the community who would like to create and submit logo concepts representing each school to be used in many forms including websites, banners, letterhead, jerseys, t-shirts, athletic gear, publications, promotional items, etc.

Specifics

Designs must consist of completely original artwork, absolutely NO clip-art or stock illustrations. Any typography must be licensed for free commercial use. Designs must be scalable to work in both large and small formats with careful consideration for embroidery.

The brand identity system consists of two areas…

Academic Branding - The academic logo forms the foundation upon which each school brand identity system is built. The academic logo should be used with all formal communications produced by the school and should reflect the school's academic excellence with a simpler and more elegant style.

Academic Branding items include:

  1. Primary Academic Logo

Spirit Branding - The spirit symbols are used to communicate school spirit. These symbols are friendly and casual, and they should be used only when a bolder, more informal look is desired, particularly by athletics, student groups, and alumni organizations. These symbols should never compete graphically or be used as a substitute for the school's academic logo.

Spirit Branding items include:

  1. Primary Spirit Logo
  2. Secondary Block Letter Logo (E for East, H or HH for Highland, W for West)
  3. Secondary Mascot Logo (Leapard for East, Ram for Highland, Panther for West)
  4. Secondary Wordmark Logo (text only version)

You may submit designs for either the Academic Branding, the Spirit Branding (all 4 items), or both. No more than three designs for an area may be submitted.

Submitting Your Design

Designs should be submitted in vector format when possible, JPEG or PNG if not, and should be no greater than 2MB. Please submit your design with your name, email address, phone number, and a brief statement on how your design captures the mission and culture of the school by Monday, September 17, 2012 by email to Andy Shaffer at andy.shaffer@slcschools.org.

What Happens Next

Your designs will be seen by the school's branding committee, who will select no more than 3 finalists. These finalists will be given feedback by the committee and a chance to present their revised design in person. The committee will offer their final feedback of the revised designs of which the finalists may refine into a final design. The final submissions in addition to the school/district sponsored concepts already presented, will be presented to the community at large and put to a final vote.

Important Note: Please understand that you will not be compensated for your design work or any revisions. Winning designs will be the sole property of the Salt Lake City School District to be used in any manner. However, winning designers will be fully credited for your work.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact Andy Shaffer at andy.shaffer@slcschools.org.
